ROOM & BOARD

In Spain, France, Mexico, and Costa Rica, LPI students will live with a homestay. Two students are normally placed with each homestay. There may be occasions that will require LPI to place up to four students in one homestay, although this is not common. LPI cannot guarantee that students will have a roommate. Students who wish to guarantee a single room must pay an additional fee. Please be aware that some students who did not pay the extra fee may also be placed in single rooms. In addition, this extra fee guarantees the student their own bedroom, but does not guarantee that they will be the only LPI or foreign student in the home. All of the homestays in Spain, Mexico, and Costa Rica are personally interviewed by the full-time on-site staff. Homestays in France are directly monitored by the university in Angers. The host families provide three meals a day (two in Angers, France), seven days a week (except for LPI excursion days) for the official period of the program. Laundry will be done once a week.

In both Florence and London, students will live in a residency hall and will be accommodated in single or double rooms. Students will share bathroom, kitchen and laundry room facilities. The on-site LPI directors will also live in the residence hall providing the necessary supervision.

FULL-TIME RESIDENT DIRECTOR

LPI will have a resident director to assist students with all aspects of their living and study abroad experience. On-site directors arrange excursions, daily or weekly meetings, cultural activities, and much more. Please refer to the specific city sections to read bios on the LPI staff abroad.

ON-SITE LPI OFFICE

Most program locations will have an LPI on-site office where students have access to their resident staff as well as internet access (free of charge). The on-site offices offer both the students and the parents a source of comfort and security while abroad and serve as a common meeting point for the students

TUITION & BOOKS

Tuition at the host university is included. All classes are taught by host university faculty members. Books are only included on some summer programs. Please refer to the specific city sections to see available programs.

ACADEMIC CREDITS

LPI will receive an official transcript for each student from the host university upon successful completion of the academic program. A copy of the official transcript or certificate will be mailed to each student after the program. In order to receive college credit, students may request an official transcript be sent to their future U.S. university. When applying to colleges, normally a copy of the student's official transcript is sufficient for consideration for acceptance.

Click here for more information on academic credit and how credits earned abroad are transferred.

LPI is not responsible if credits do not transfer.

TUTORING

Students can receive up to 2 hours of tutoring on weekdays. This service is arranged by the on-site directors.

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

The LPI on-site staff will organize up to three cultural activities per week designed to help students explore their host city. LPI covers all entrance fees and necessary transportation costs. Activities are generally scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and may include visiting a local museum, going to the movies, a cooking class, a dance class, local sports, etc. LPI also attempts to organize an intercambio (language exchange) at least once a week. These intercambios are designed so that LPI students can converse with local students close to their age. In order to organize the intercambios, LPI works with several local high schools. It is important to note that during the summer local students may be on vacation with their families. For this reason, intercambios may not be readily available during the months of July and August. Student participation on activities is required and all activities are subject to change.

CULTURAL EXCURSIONS

LPI offers both day and overnight excursions designed to allow each student to observe and learn about the culture and history of the host country. Ground transportation and organized tours are included on all excursions. If necessary, the group will be accompanied by an official guide that has specialized knowledge about the excursion site. Hotel accommodations and breakfast are also included on all overnight excursions. Lunch and dinner are not included on excursions. Please refer to the specific city sections to see available excursions. Excursions are subject to change.

ENTRANCE FEES

LPI covers all entrance fees, guided tour expenses in museums and cathedrals, and transportation costs during all organized excursions. These fees are not included for any optional excursions.

WHAT'S NOT INCLUDED

AIRFARE

Due to the large number of students participating on LPI programs from across the United States as well as the fact that many families travel with their children before and/or after the program, LPI does not provide group flight arrangements. Once you have been accepted, LPI will send you detailed information regarding how to book your flight. If a student does not depart on the scheduled program return date, LPI requires written parental permission clearly stating the date, location of student pick-up, and the full name and relation of the person who will pick the student up. Click here for more information regarding flight arrangements or contact the LPI office at 800.259.4439.

NOTE: LPI advises students and parents to confirm that the minimum enrollment requirement for their program has been met before purchasing airfare.

Customized programs designed for a specific high school may include a group flight.

TRIP CANCELLATION / WITHDRAWAL PROTECTION

All LPI programs include medical insurance; however, many parents request information regarding trip cancellation insurance. LPI's Program Withdrawal Protection guarantees a full refund of the program cost less the program deposit and withdrawal protection fee under any circumstances, provided that withdrawal is completed prior to the program's departure date. For more details on LPI's Program Withdrawal Protection click here.
