Global Awareness
Participating in LPI is more than just studying at a university abroad. Since its establishment in 1989, LPI has been deeply committed to delivering the highest quality immersion experiences with the goal of fostering global citizenship. LPI programs provide a stepping stone to college and a broader view of the global community. By testing your limits you can gain maturity, independence, and confidence.
LPI Language Pledge
We highly encourage all LPI participants to speak only the host country language when they are interacting with our staff and other participants or using our many office resources.
Staff Expertise
The majority of our on-site staff is native to the host country. Their experiences give each of them a unique comprehension of long-standing local social issues and the resources available to address them. The on-site staff members are experts at facilitating the cultural and linguistic immersion that is such an integral aspect of LPI programs.
Cultural Immersion
Our on-site staff organizes activities to expose participants to the essence of their host city through a local resident’s point of view. Participants receive a cultural orientation upon arrival to gain a deeper understanding of local customs, traditions and social issues. Throughout participants’ time abroad, they will be further exposed to the culture through activities such as interactive cooking demonstrations, guided museum tours, challenging dance classes, and much more.
College Preparation
All LPI participants study the host country’s language at the college level in authentic university settings, which can be a valuable introduction to life and academics after high school. All students receive university transcripts which are issued upon course completion.
Participant Safety
LPI resident staff maintains close contact with both the U.S. Embassies in their country as well as families back home to ensure safety and awareness of any situations that may arise. Resident staff members are available 24/7 to respond to the needs of the students and one Austin staff member is on call throughout the program in the event of an emergency. LPI participants also receive comprehensive medical insurance during the program.
